“Why Leadership?”

Today I put on my “proud dad” hat to share a post from my son, Aaron.  Last week  in his blog, 11:1 Leadership Group, Aaron asked a handful of questions that apply to everyone involved in any leadership capacity.  He really got me thinking, and I know you’ll be challenged as well. With his permission, I’m sharing his thoughts with you.

aaronstroman1When I share the name of my organization with people, I sometimes get looks of curiosity, interest, skepticism, or a deer in the headlights.  What does a “leadership” organization bring to the table?

Leadership is a broad topic.  In fact I would say that leadership is universal.  You can take leadership principles from your business and use them in your family.  Leadership principles are always transferable.  A prime example of this is seen in leadership guru Patric Lencioni.  Lencioni writes books on organizational leadership, but he also wrote a book on family (The 3 Big Questions for a Frantic Family).  What’s the common thread?  Leadership!

Some people are intimidated by the idea of leadership because they think of high raking military officers or Fortune 500 CEOs.  Leadership is not just reserved for the corporate world, leadership can be applied to any aspect of life: the classroom, the gym, the family, even as a customer in a store, or a spectator in a crowd.

What I’ve observed is that most people have more leadership opportunities than they are actually practicing leadership in.  Therein lies one of the many reasons I LOVE helping people develop their leadership ability.

When a person realizes the full potential of leadership application, they begin to develop and grow exponentially.

So let me ask you today: Are there areas of your life that you could apply leadership to?  If so, what’s preventing you from stepping up as a leader?

11:1 Leadership Group focuses on 3 things:

•  Developing Leaders

•  Equipping Volunteers

•  Serving children, youth, and families
