If you’ve been involved with nonprofit organizations or the philanthropic community for very long, you know that volunteers are a critical part of the staffing in most organizations. Nonprofits need volunteers for board positions, to help with event management, and many, many other things. Volunteers are the best!
A “best practice” for any organization is to properly recognize and thank volunteers for their outstanding service. Recently, someone very special to The Institute for Conversational Fundraising was honored for her outstanding service to the Boy Scouts of America. Alice-Ann Shiflet has been working with us for almost two years, but her service to the Boy Scouts goes back much further than that. She has served in a variety of ways as her son works his way to the rank of Eagle Scout. Recently Alice-Ann was honored by the local Cherokee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America with the Silver Beaver Award.
This is a really big deal! The Silver Beaver was introduced in 1931 and is given to Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of the youth through service to their local council. It is the highest award that a local council can bestow. Ty Roberts, the Cherokee Council CEO and Scout Executive, says, “Alice-Ann’s efforts in the popcorn fundraising sale produced the highest profit in years. These extra funds benefit young Scouts and provide more opportunities that may not have been possible without Alice-Ann’s diligent work.” She also is heavily involved in recruitment and retention with the local council. Needless to say, we are very proud of Alice-Ann! I know from working with her that Alice-Ann is indeed both diligent and hardworking…and when she puts her mind to something, it will get done! What a great example of volunteer recognition. Join me in congratulating Alice-Ann by sending her a quick note and thanking her for her service to the young people in our community.
